Ombré ombré.

I change my hair almost as often as I change my underpants. Okay, slight exaggeration but you catch my drift. My latest hair trend is the oh-so-famous ombré look. This look appears to be as if your dyed hair has grown out, leaving you with darker roots and lighter tips.

After watching thousands of YouTube tutorials, I figured it probably wouldn't be that difficult.

Drum roll...
Revlon  Sunblonde Colour Silk

Why do I love it so much? It was 15 dollars, barely damaged my hair, and I don't have to worry about the roots. I could easily play with the bleach to get the colour I wanted.  Like the look? YouTube it.

1952-2002

Tomorrow is my Papa's death anniversary. On this day, I will remember the very faint but present memories I have of him. Je t'aime, tu me manques.

To Stats or Not to Stats

Everyone who knows me is aware that math is not my forte. So when I was obliged to take a stats course this semester, it was quite clear that I was doomed for disaster - or so I thought.

I have found a remedy to make statistics a little more interesting. Here are the ingredients:
  • Pitcher of Sleeman Light
  • Pizza
  • Campus bar
  • Friend who shares the same hatred for statistics

So far, so good.

Pretty Much Amazing dot com have tallied up the best songs of 2011 thus far. Click on the link below to see if you're up to date with the music trends of 2011.

GaGa doesn't belong on the list (in my humble opinion) but sir Bon Iver sure does.

New music.

Finding music is almost an art, an art I feel I have mastered throughout the years. When I really enjoy a song or a band, I usually have it on repeat for weeks and weeks. However, what happens when the song suddenly becomes overplayed and you are left with nothing to listen to? That's when I use my favourite music finding tool...last fm.
http://www.last.fm

I love it because it has such a vast array of artists. From sell-outs to underground, they have it all. Now, how to use it? Easy. Let’s say you love Bon Iver, and wish to find a similar artist. On the left hand side, there's a tab called similar artist, click on it and voila, you now have access to all these different artists with similar sound. Another way you can find music on LastFm is by searching a music genre. For example if you wish to find indie-folk bands, simply search for "indie-folk".

Here are some of my latest finds...

The Middle East - I Want That You Are Always Happy - http://www.myspace.com/44938562
St. Vincent - Strange Mercy - http://www.myspace.com/40624756
S. Carey - All We Grow - http://www.myspace.com/537455644
Gayngs - Relayted - http://www.myspace.com/507818150

Happy searching!

Sunday Blues

Did you know that the Sunday blues are a legitimate thing? Sure my source of information on this subject is Wikipedia; however I trust that everyone will agree with the statement below...

"Sunday night blues is an acute condition, mostly affecting nine-to-five workers and students. This condition is characterized by anxiety about the week ahead and a sense of helplessness and depression. It most often occurs on Sunday afternoons and evenings. It is also referred to as "school bus blues" or "Sunday night depression".

I'm all feathered out.

During an episode of a show I will not name (trying to remain cool in the eyes of my readers) I noticed that the leading lady was sporting what seemed to be feathers in her hair. A simple dainty feather, small enough to hide if need be. After seeing this, I decided I HAD to get one as well. My co-worker and I started investigating and found a place that sold them. The following day we were both proudly sporting a nice feather extension.

How to spot a douche bag

I have unfortunately become quite familiar with douche bags.

                             1.  Dou-che-bag
Definition: Someone who has surpassed the levels of jerk and asshole.

The usual douche is a self absorbed individual who would rather look at his biceps in the mirror than take you out for a nice sandwich.  To know whether or not you a dealing with one, you need to understand the variety of douches out there as well as the level of douche he possesses. There are key elements that are essential when trying to find out whether or not your man is the real thing or a complete DOUCHE

The egocentric douche
  • Spends his day at the gym
  • Fist pumps
  • Listens to Usher and actually enjoys it
  • Will only date large chested blonds
  • Wears Ed Hardy
  • Has a popped collar
  • Has a fake tan
Tanorexic

The hockey player douche
  • Usually has a shag and a baseball cap
  • Has about 3 girlfriends at the same time
  • Wears their sunglasses inside
  • Has a girlfriend in every city they visit
  • If you are one of those girlfriends, be sure to be the subject of conversation in the change room
  • They most likely have an illegitimate child
Sorry Sydney.

The douchiest doucher
  • Brings you on a date and leaves with another girl
  • Has an entire conversation with your chest
  • Gives back handed compliments such as "what a nice dress, you look 20 pounds lighter"
  • Gets drunk on the first date
  • Has a long list of um.. references?
  • Will talk about how hot [insert name] is, RIGHT in front of you
Resembles egocentric minus Ed Hardy

The hidden douche
  • Does not seem like a douche at first glance
  • Is actually extremely nice in the beginning
  • After you are hooked reveals his true douche colors
  • Will break up with you but keep you around for his own purposes
  • Will call you in the middle of the night ONLY
  • Will NEVER let you see his phone simply because you are not the only girl he is texting
Don't be fooled.

The "I'm broken" douche
  • These douches are normally hipsters
  • They wear denim outfits, ie.Canadian tuxedos
  • Are usually very stylish and will most likely have more shoes than you
  • Are either Vegetarian or Vegan, and only  purchase organic products
  • They will not discuss their feelings but will absolutely hurt yours
Beware. SO hard to resist.

All in all, some are harder to spot than others and unfortunately, there are no douche radars available to the general public.

GOOD luck.

Snap, Crackle, Shatter?

They say history repeats itself, well so does fashion. OPI's new (to me) shatter product sure does resemble a line of product that was released back in the 90's. Whether it’s a new original concept or not, I absolutely adore it. Being the nail-polish-addict that I am, I needed to get my hands on it. After numerous attempts, and the polish always being sold out, I pathetically asked the sales women to call me when they received a new shipment. Loser, I know.
OPI black Shatter, 14.99$
I applied one coat of the black shatter to a completely dry nail. (Undercoat - Revlon Sheer Cotton, 6$) And voila! Pure magic.

All in all I give this product 7 out of 10. The application of the shatter nail polish is not always easy or even and if you have too much it doesn't shatter.  Also, it's not a look you want to sport everyday nor is it nice with every undercoat.

Oh the complicated life of a nail polish addict.

Shake your Bon Bon.

Bon Iver, actually pronounced Bonne Hiver, is one of my favorite groups. The leading Man Justin Vernon is magnificently talented.

A few weeks ago,  I was able to get my hands on a pre-released copy of their new cd. After having the album on repeat for a good two weeks, I  reached the conclusion that it is even better than For Emma, Forever Ago.  I'm always very skeptical when artists release a new album, but this one does not disappoint. Have a listen! It will be worth your while.

Happy listening.

Living paycheck to paycheck.

While I am not one to give out financial advice, I can surely help in the spending department. When I'm not busy at work giving out career advice, you can usually find me checking my bank account (often negative..)

Due to my bad spending habits, I've recently picked up window shopping and wish list making. Out on one of my window runs, I noticed this lovely dress at Urban Outfitters. I would chose this over groceries any day.
Urban Outfitters - 69$
Speaking of groceries, I should get back to my lunch. Mmm delicious PB.
