Werk it.

I usually hate doing this but I am really proud. I don't know how much I've lost. To be honest, I've decided to stop worrying so much on the numbers and just concentrate on how I feel in my own skin.  My diet has not changed drastically, I just stopped eating everything I wanted ( breakfast sandwiches, croissants, cookies, bagels...etc) and went back to having things in moderation. It makes you appreciate them a lot more when you do treat yourself.

My diet just needed to be tweaked and reassessed. I also needed to get back to exercising regularly, which I now do. There is no excuse when you have a gym in your building.

Bottom line is, I just want to be healthy again. I want to be able to go up the stairs without being out of breath. I want to be able to keep up with Ric when he walks and I want to have more energy. I have been guilty of dieting for the wrong reasons in the past - I don't want to do that anymore.

Telephone be gone.

Get off your fucking phones. I don't make plans to hangout with you and your phone, so please stop.

I think the reason it bothers me so much to see people constantly on their phone is because it makes me realize how much I do it too. As a result,  I have decided to stop.  I have decided to put down my telephone and start engaging with people. I have decided to have a meaningful conversation with my mother instead of seeing what Miley Cyrus is up to. The world won't end if you don't check your Facebook and people won't like you less if you don't re-tweet or share a post on any social media platform.

Who the fuck cares. These people won't be around forever.

Rant done.

Let them eat SOUP.

We have moved to Toronto. What a treat. So many restaurants to try, new coffee shops to discover and most of all, grocery stores with SO many more things to buy. Newmarket, kiss my ass.

Although it is tempting to eat out, Ric and I have both agreed to limit ourselves to once a week (helps the waist line and the wallet). Yesterday was a cold blizzard-like day aka the perfect weather for a warm fragrant soup. I found this recipe on ohmyveggies and decided to give it a shot. It's incredibly tasty and really easy to make.

Coconut-Lime Tofu Soup

Coconut-Lime Tofu Soup

Ingredients
  • 3 1/2 c. vegetable broth
  • 2-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and cut into 1/4 inch rounds
  • 1-13.5 oz. can unsweetened coconut milk
  • 1-14 oz. package extra firm tofu, drained, pressed at least 30 minutes (you can use a tofu press), and cubed
  • 8 oz. button mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • 6 tbsp. fresh lime juice (about 3 limes)
  • 3 tbsp. soy sauce or tamari
  • 2 tsp. light brown sugar
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, thinly sliced, seeds removed
  • 3/4 c. packed fresh cilantro leaves

Instructions
  • Combine broth and ginger in a large pot and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Add coconut milk to broth; return to a simmer. Stir in tofu and mushrooms; cook 3 minutes, or until mushrooms are tender.
  • Add lime juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, jalapeno, and 1/2 cup of cilantro leaves to pot; cook 1 minute more.
  • Garnish bowls with remaining cilantro.
Enjoy!

new year.

At this time last year, I had just made a huge mistake. Without getting into it, it made me put things into perspective. Was that how I wanted to start off a new year? The answer was no. I guess it made me want to turn over a new leaf, and I did, and I met Ric.

So thank you 2013 for starting in the worst possible way but ending in the best possible way.
